Polymer structure of the coating: After application and curing, the liquid or powder coating forms a solid polymer network. This structure determines the coating’s overall durability and resistance.

Multi-layer coating system: In practice, surface finishes often consist of several layers rather than a single coating—for example, a primer, filler, colour coat and protective topcoat.
